I’ve been getting a lot questions both concerned and cruel from all channels of communication so this post is to set the record straight.
Some progress has not been updated to the site but summer was more difficult than I had anticipated. There was a lot of life shit I will not share with you all that took up the majority of late May and June. But most critically, my hands were and are more deeply injured than I was admitting to myself at the time.
I’m trying everything, traditional therapy, braces, vitamins, ultrasound, ASTYM, even steroids. I’ve gotten nerve tests and invested hundreds in a more ergonomic workstation and dictation software. But at the end of the day I needed an internship and what I could get involved using a laptop on a shitty shared table all day. Once that started is when the “steady” progress dropped off. I literally could not sit and type any more. It’s over now and I have moved back into an environment where I can use Dragon dictation but the effects very much still remain.
I understand it’s frustrating to be waiting for me. But that pales to the frustration of not being able to do basic life tasks. It’s hurts to write, mouse, stir a pot, drive a car, sometime just to twist a lid or doorknob. (My saving grace is that most eroge have an auto-mode.) I know some of you don’t believe this but I think of this project everyday. I am still very much committed to seeing it through. You can believe in me or not but let this post stand as proof I believe in y’all enough to share this information with you.

Hum, did my question offend you somehow? It was just a question that naturally came after noticing fuwanovel commenter’s growing concerns about the state and happening of the translation, upon seeing as how it seemed to have been stalled for some reason(s), I became curious about what was happening to the Kud Wafter project and I just wanted to know if it had been dropped or not.
By the way if your hands hurts from too much you should switch to a capacitive keyboard, because membrane keyboards puts more strain on your fingers in the long run. A Realforce101 should do the trick:

It was not targeted at you specifically, I have just been getting many repeated questions (and some harassment on twitter) and wanted to put my response somewhere more accessible.
Right now I’m using a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic 7000 but that keyboard sounds pretty interesting. I will look into it.

Ignore them! At the end of the day the simple reality is; your doing this as a fan project, your not obligated in anyway to do this, your offering a service many will use and asking for nothing more than some patience and understanding. I can’t say i know the pain you suffer, i have hand issues myself but not such which effect my life (just weak skin which can look nasty) but i for one think it’s horrible if people don’t offer some sympathy and understanding, if they don’t believe you well that’s their problem, fact is they can not believe and keep their mouth shut (all is ok) or they can just leave the project following instead of causing you trouble.
Now i know some are just curious not in any offensive way (human nature makes us ask questions) so im not so much saying bad to them, just the ones who smart mouth.
Don’t worry about them people and just ban/block or whatever to remove them, you take things steady and keep well, health is more important than a game and we all (the real fans) understand and appreciate your efforts 🙂
so don’t let others get you down and take things steady ^_^ as said, there are many kind people here who understand completely 🙂

Hey man, just wanted to say ill be in prayer for you as you continue to work through your injury. The quiet majority of those of us here greatly admire your continued dedication during these difficult times. I hope that the rudeness of a few doesn’t cloud the interpretation of those of us here who are reasonable and understand what you are sacrificing to continue work on this.

I’m really sorry about your injury, and just remember, as excited as we are, many of us can wait. What you are doing is very difficult and stressful, and it’s not at all your fault if you have something keeping you from progressing. To the ass holes criticizing him, if you want to play it so damn bad learn Japanese. Enjoy the rest of your summer and get well soon.

Hey, your doing this translation project for free for all of us, no one has any right to be upset at delays. Especially if those delays are injury related. I patiently await for your injuries to be good enough for steady progress and then I await the day I can sink into the Wafuu~!
Hoping you feel better soon! ^,.,^

It was a mix of thesis, graduate work, and a very toxic consulting group. >_<

i wouldnt even bother replying to these people who find it entertaining to group together and laugh at you when you are ill. or disparage you for not making steady progress. this is the kind of quality of thought that comes straight from the bowels of places like 4chan or TLwiki.
the truth is, the majority of decent people do neither of the above. In fact the thought of it is completely alien to them. normal people are the ones who either thank you in their hearts, or leave a message behind to encourage you for what you do. they are appreciative of whatever they can get, and they do not participate in slander.
you must understand the people who buy into these kinds of slander are but a tiny tiny minority of the full VN reading audience. that I can assure you of personally. So don’t feel put off by them. if one of them comes here, there is 10 of us ready to defend you.
just look after your health. that’s most important

What happened is quite unfortunate and I hope that you’ll get better soon. Don’t worry about those that are being spiteful, they’re just being impatient because they expect frequent updates and steady progress. And there are plenty of us here to provide support. Hopefully more than 10 though.
If I knew the process behind translating visual novels, I might try to lend a hand. My Japanese is very limited though.

Well, holy s**t. This really must be aweful for you. Get well soon and don’t worry about some haters. Just ignore them. wafuuu~

I was thinking, can’t you find someone to type things for you? Like you translate things orally and they type it in your place?
August 22, 2013 at 10:50 pm
jyuichi
That’s Dragon. I’m training it but it takes time. ^^;

I think Nier means actual person dictation as opposed to speech-recognition software. Still, I think you know who to ask if you wanted that.
Regardless, it’s important to be comfortable with your method of translation. If you’re happy using Dragon, then great.
August 23, 2013 at 4:38 am
Nier
No, I mean why don’t you act as a translator-narrator while someone else handles the typing for you so you avoid having to use your fingers? You read the translated text while recording it and send it to someone willing to type that all unto text, what do think?
August 23, 2013 at 9:27 am
Yirba
Nier: Yup, that’s what I meant. There are people who have offered to type the translations, but it’s really up to Jyuichi. The idea has certainly been suggested.

Translation isn’t an easy task and does take time. I think that, all things considering, progress has been good. Care has to be given to create the quality translation Kud Wafter deserves. It may be difficult to tell from the outside, but Jyuichi has been trying really hard with this. Quite honestly, it’s great that a translation project for Kud Wafter exists in the first place.

I’m not sure what other’s are thinking, neither do I need to know, but I will always cheer for you! I think it’s an amazing thing you have done this all, and I’m already really grateful. Of course, translating a whole VN isn’t something someone can get done in a month. I will be patiently waiting for you! Take the time you need. Thank you for all the things you have already done until now, and fighting!!!
ps, thanks for telling us about your situation (:

Taters going to take bro, I hope you get well in the future, You’re doing this by your own free will, To enjoy smiles on others faces, Most of these people are just impatient and eager for it, my advice to them is to actually take the initiative and TAKE japanese, I’ve been taking it for a few years now, it’s well worth it! They will never fully be able to experience your pain, They don’t have hand problems like you! hang in their m’dear sir. Although, you’re commited to this project even you need time of your own to just relax, keep the project steady and slow, slow and steady makes it as accurate as possible, Translating a thing like this takes a lot of effort and is time consuming, So, just take it slow, Go out for a little sauna trip, rest a bit. Go eat some food, Live life as much as you can. Hell, perhaps even your Spouse / Mateship needs some attention from you, or if you have a child, hang out with him / her a bit, make them KNOW you’re the best father in the world. Life is meant to be lived, Life is shaped by every action you do.
To the haters; Go learn japanese and try translating it yourself! he could be doing this alone…

If you’re still having those pains, do you really think it’s worth straining yourself for this project? Your health is more important than this project. If I were in your position and if this project were the reason or one of the reasons causing the pain, I would probably (with a very sad heart, but still) abandon it. This might help accelerate the healing process.
I wish you all the best.

Since I am in business graduate school this project is one of my few outlets to refine my Japanese skills. It’s very important personally and professional that I keep my language skills sharp. It’s all about balance.
I appreciate your concern though. It means a lot to me to hear from fans that understand why this project has slowed so severely and understand why I am prioritizing other things into life (healing, school) Thank you 🙂

This is the first time i have checked in sometime. i certainly wish you all the best and am quite glad that, despite everything, you didnt abandon this project. i’d like to know what caused your hand to become like that exactly but it is ok if you dont want to tell.i just hope that you become better and dont over exert yourself 🙂

I have been having my eyes on this project for a while, checking relentlessly for the percentage to change, however I have heard that the translator is currently recovering from an accident and I thought to myself that he’ll surely won’t continue this project and won’t see it through after all.
But from what I’ve read I can see how passionate you want this to be finished, for your own sake and for others who’ll gladly enjoy this VN being translated, I hope you’re still doing alright, and can’t help you out somehow as I’m just some random guy who likes Visual Novels, but having read what you’re going through and how determined you are towards this project being complete you have my respect (If that’s any worth) and all the wishes that your health gradually recovers over this new year.
Thank you, for me, for all us.
Happy New Year 😉

Hi, I’ve been anticipating this translation for a while now and I diddnt realize that you’ve been having all these problems before now, entering this page. I totally agree with what others have been saying here, your personal health is way more important than finishing this project (cant believe im saying this because I’ve been waiting really long for this and i was soo thrilled when i found out that a translation was in progress. I’m probably one of those who want this the most, but whatever). Always put yourself first. It really does sound horrible, your conditions. I really hope things are working out ok. I take it you’ve been slowing down things, if not completely stopped the project since your last big update was in 2013, but this is your project and you need to decide when to or if you’re going to finish it.
I REALLY wish you all the best of luck and I’d love to hear more updates about the project or even your personal conditions (if you’re allright sharing that, ofcourse!) Keep your head up and know that there are people out there who support you alone as a person! You do amazing work, really. I would never be able to do it.
Gambatte!~ and take care!
